Derek Perkins
Derek Perkins was admitted on 22 April 1996. He has practiced in all jurisdictions in Queensland, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, District Court and the Magistrates Court.
Initially performing duty lawyer services in the Brisbane Magistrates Court 25 years ago, his criminal practice quickly expanded to include all street offences, indictable offences rape, robbery, trafficking and murder, but also Commonwealth offences, possessing forged identity documents, counterfeit money, non-declaration of large sums of cash upon entry to Australia and misuse of carriage services.
Derek is a down-to-earth lawyer who has no difficulty communicating with everyday people. He fights with a legal killer instinct you can depend on and defends client’s rights without fear or favour.

Oliver
Oliver is a multi-genre producer, performer and voice artist with a Bachelor of Musical Theatre from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (2015).
Since graduating, he has experienced success as a performer locally, nationally, and internationally with credits including Underground Opera’s West End To Broadway, The Harry Potter Frog Choir at Universal Studios Japan, and as a member of The Ten Tenors. Oliver has since turned his focus to Australian premieres of original musicals, including Don’t Call Me Ishmael and Becoming Bill. He recently performed for The Head Bros. premiere production of new musical Hallmarked! in which he played legendary composer George Gershwin.
As a producer, Oliver’s work spans both independent and public sectors. He worked on Out of the Box Children’s Festival 2018, Queensland Music Festival 2019, and the 2021 Queensland Music Trails. In the independent sector, he produced William Hinz’s Genesis at Metro Arts in 2019, which was subsequently published by Australian Plays; and co-produced the Australian Premiere of Jesse Eisenberg’s The Revisionist, directed by Caroline Dunphy and starring Kate Wilson and Michael Mandalios.
Oliver is a proud member of MEAA Actors Equity, and serves as a committee member for the Actors and Entertainer' Benevolent Fund and Playlab Theatre.
Joanne Tinham
Joanne Tinham, Legal Secretary of Queensland Lawyers, began working in Law Firms in South Australia as a High school student in 1994.
With almost 30 years of experience in law firms, Joanne has worked in all facets of the legal profession including law firms, barrister chambers and as a judicial support officer in the supreme district court of south Australia. Joanne moved to cairns in 2015.
